| St. Charles Community College helps students avoid credit card trouble
With increasing tuition costs, student loans and credit cards, some college and university students are finding themselves deep in debt.St. Charles Community College is taking steps to help those and other students make better financial choices."Students at St. Charles Community College not only receive education in the classroom, but they also have educational opportunities for challenges they may face outside of college," said Heather McDorman, SCC director of marketing and communications.The Social Science Society, an SCC student club, recently offered a series of seminars and films to help inform students on the rising problem of debt and credit card abuse.Sheena Rice, St. Louis Community College-Meramec campus organizer for the Missouri Public Interest Research Group, shared some statistics about student debt with a few SCC students, as well as tips on ways to get out of it."I really think it's one of the more pressing concerns right now," Rice said.

Fitch Rates Metro Sewerage Dist's (North Carolina) $55.8MM Sewerage System Revs 'AA'; Outlook Stable
Fitch Ratings assigns an underlying rating of 'AA' to the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County, North Carolina's (the district) $33.6 million sewerage system revenue refunding bonds, series 2008A and $22.2 million sewerage system revenue refunding bonds, series 2008B. The series 2008A bonds are scheduled to sell on March 31 and the series 2008B bonds are scheduled to sell on April 30, each through a negotiated sale. Bond proceeds will be used to refund outstanding parity debt. In addition, Fitch affirms the rating on the district's outstanding parity debt at 'AA'. The Rating Outlook is Stable. The 'AA' rating is based primarily on the district's strong financial management demonstrated by consistently healthy debt service coverage and exceptionally strong liquidity levels.
Board Backs Town Hall Renovations
The West Tisbury historic district commission this week approved the major parts of a proposed $5.1 million renovation of town hall. The renovation project, slated for a vote at annual town meeting on April 8, is the latest in a series of renovation proposals to voters dating back to 1997. Between April 1997 and 2005, voters approved several design and development requests ranging between $10,000 and $75,000 for two separate architectural firms. In 2003, annual town meeting voters narrowly rejected a $3.8 million borrowing plan to fund the renovation. At that point, the town formed the space needs committee charged with creating a comprehensive renovation plan. The space needs committee prioritized capital projects, putting town hall renovation first followed by construction of a new police station and expansion of the library.
